Cannes Day 2!

Our second day in Cannes was great; except for a small misunderstanding. When we booked the beach reservation with our hotel, we understood that we could rent a chair and umbrella on the beach and that lunch was included for 18 euro. What a bargain! It turns out it was 10 euro to rent the chair and umbrella, but if you bought your lunch from the restaurant on the beach front, the rental was 8 euro PLUS the cost of the food. So, after trying to get the specifics as to what we thought we had paid for, and several conversations with the "Beach Boys (Cabana Boys/Waiters/Gophers)," Pox decided to run back to our hotel to get some more cash and our credit card (just in case...). We had told the lady at the hotel to add the beach to our bill... but what we didn't know, is that you arrive, order what you like, and pay at the end of your beach visit; unfortunately for us, being the cautious Americans we are, had only taken 14 Euros and the hotel key with us in a ziplock baggie. Our assigned waiter and Cabana Boy was very nice and understanding, he event went as far as telling us a little bit about himself and his Peruvian girlfriend. We cannot begin to understand how they can communicate with one another, as he only speaks a limited amount of Spanish: mi amor, cariño, bonita, pescado, chile...lol. Not only that, Pox found 25 Euros (40 USD) in the water...needless to say, he wasn't gawking at the topless women, he had his eye on the water! Hmmm... maybe I put the money in the water... Before we knew it, we had spent 6 wonderful and refreshing hours in the water! That was enough to cool us off enough to venture around the city in the evening.

We headed up "La Criossette," or the main street, where plenty of window shopping takes place at Louis Vuitton, Prada, Fendi, Pucci, as well as other smaller boutiques. Even if shopping is not quite your thing, you definately find something to interest you (Hence, Victoria Couture--the Hello Kitty couture shop, Le Chien/Dog Boutique, and sweet shops). We made it up to the Palace, where the yearly Cannes Film Festival takes place and to the marina. It was at the marina, that we noticed the Medieval city perched high above the cliffs... it was too late in the evening by that time to investigate that one, but it will go down on our "places to see if we should ever be back list." We did make it to the flea market, where I found an adorable piglet coin purse to bring home with me. Just as we thought our evening was about to conclude, we were entranced by the voice of a wonderful muse, well not really, it was some young French kid who was singing "Billy Jean." Now, if you know us, you know we stopped for that one! Pox and I sat down and ordered drinks and enjoyed the show... several songs later, and a hilarious but excellent rendition of "Superstition," (sunglasses and Stevie Wonder dance), the singer, Jordan, came over to introduce himself. It turns out that Jordan will be heading out to California in February to attend Berkley. After a nice conversation in Frenchglish, we told him that if he should ever go to Los Angeles, that we would take him dancing or to a kareoki bar...

Who would have guessed that Cannes would have so many intersting experiences in store for us? We had fun at the beach, got to see incredible monuments, ate great food, and met very memorable and friendly people...we must say, Cannes definately won us over!
